Building an email list should be important for every blogger. These days, you can find a lot of free tools that can help you build the mail list. At fist I did not have too much knowledge of which tools to use for building my mail list. I had to search the internet for the best choices and tools that are free, for building up my mail list. Also, I was thinking how I could integrate auto-responders in my blog because I was planning to offer some stuff for free for the ones that would subscribe.
So, in this article, I was planing to present you, from my perspective, the best free tools and services for building up a mail list , so that you’d be able to implement them easier in your blog.
Free Tools to Use for Building Up a Mail List:
1. FeedBurner
I think this is the most well known tool on the internet because it is mostly used for delivering your feeds to the readers. FeedBurner is offering also a possibility to have mail subscribers. In the beginning, because I didn’t know too much stuffs about mail tools that could help me build a list, I chose to use FeedBurner. But this service doesn’t have support for auto responders, neither advanced configurations, nor campaigns, as other mail services. The code is very simple to install on your blog, after you register you activate the possibility to have mail subscribers, configure the feeds that you want to be sent to subscribers and copy paste the code on your blog.
2. MailChimp
I think this is the best choice for a small blog with not more then 1000 email subscribers. MailChimp is offering very interesting features for free. You can use MailChimp for free and have a maximum of 1000 email subscribers and maximum 6000 emails sent a month. MailChimp will put their logo on the bottom of the mail for the free service. With MailChimp you can create mail auto-responders, campaigns, customized email templates and much more. MailChimp is very simple to integrate with any blogging platform or CMS, it is offering the possibility to create custom registration forms and integrate them with your site. MailChimp was my choice when I built my mail list.
3. FreeAutoBot
This is what I used prior to MailChimp in combination with MBP Subscriber Magnet. FreeAutoBot can be used free for building the mail list, but at the end of the email they will insert some links that are not looking very good. It is very good to create auto-responders for the small sites that don’t have a budget and don’t mind the links from the end. Using FreeAutiBot is very simple and can be integrated with other plugins that can ease your life.
4. MaxBloPress Optin Form Adder
This is a free plugin for WordPress that can help you create subscription forms. This plugin can be used together with MailChimp or FreeAutoBot and the best thing is that is free to use. You can go here for a detailed presentation and video tutorial: MaxBlogPress Optin Form.
Conclusions
This is my free tools recommendation for building a mail list. I have tested each of them and I can say that MailChimp and MaxBlogPress Optin Form Adder are the best choice. Of course, more tools can be found on the web , and if you know some good ones please leave a comment so that we know them too.
For the ones interested, I would like to invite you to join my mail list, I assure you that your information will be kept private and I will not spam you unnecessary:

I think Feedburner doesn’t work on my site – I installed it years ago, and every time I test it by adding a new subscriber, the number doesn’t change.
Then it will be a good idea to try MailChimp.
Thanks for the info. I will look into MailChimp. However, I do hope I can export the information so I can import it into another email management program in the future.

I think, you will have no problem with exporting it.
The most popular is definitely feedburner, but I am beginning to hear more and more about mailchimp. I haven’t heard of the other two, but I will check them out since I’m starting to build my mailing list. Thanks for sharing, as this will save me a lot of time of searching the internet for the best tools to help me build my mailing list.
