Link Building is an important part of Search Engine Optimization, a practice of getting other websites to link to yours. Link Building with quality backlinks is amongst many important aspects considered by search engines, while determining the rankings of a site. Therefore, creating backlinks is one of the most important tasks you can undertake to promote your website with the search engines.
Top Ten Link Building Strategies:
1. Register the blog in Web Directories: this process induces monotony and can bring hundreds of links, proportionally to the time one is willing to invest. An alternative is to hire someone to do it for you. You have a list of web directories and a list of directories for blogs.
2. Send a press release to a PR site: A press release on the launch of your site can be sent to several sites for PR, press release will be distributed to various news outlets online. It’s a good way to get links. You can use PRWeb and PRLeap.
3. Interchanged links with similar sites: it is important to choose sites as important and relevant to the content of your blog as possible, so you will not only get the link, but also the traffic. Reciprocal linking can be used from the start, but it is not advisable to practice long-therm. You can find partners by sending mail to accounts on webmaster forums.
4. Squidoo lenses: A Squidoo lens is easy to use. It takes about 15 minutes to set up a single and then you’ll be able to insert more links with anchor text to your blog. Hubpages is another similar site you can use.
5. Submitting articles: Write a short article to fit in your niche blog and send it to several article directories. You’ll get some traffic and a backlink. You can get more links if your article is good as it might be published as well by other bloggers and linked to you. 6. Social Networking – If you want to be a popular blogger, create a profile on various social networks, add your profile to relevant categories and create groups. This way you can get promoted very fast and you may be put you in contact with millions of people you wouldn’t have reached otherwise.
7. Comment on other blogs: start commenting on other blogs that have content similar to your own. Do not try to spam blogs; try to create a link of friendship with other bloggers. Write a relevant comment and try to stay away from using key words instead of names and links in the comment.
8. Give Reviews: you can do that only if you have something in common with web design, SEO and copywriting.
9. Create a tool, Templates or Widget: pay a designer to create an application or a particular template for a social networking site or any other popular site. Include a link to your blog to refer and contain the anchor text.
10. Off the Net Ideas: Put your URL on your stationary, business cards, off-the-Web advertising, invoices, statements, print publications, T-shirts, promotional items, anywhere you can think of. The more times that people see your URL or business name, the better chance you’ll have at their remembering and recognizing your site and eventually visiting. To conclude, one should always have in mind some relevant aspects when considering a proficient link-building strategy: linking to sites in the same field of expertise as your-own, keeping a standard of quality, keeping your pages optimized for relevant keyword phrases and linked back and forth within your site.

This list is definitely still relevant today for webmasters trying to rank their blogs in the search engines. However, you need to follow a consistent link building plan because consistency is definitely one of the most important aspects to pleasing the search engine. I am not a big fan of Squidoo personally nor i am a fan of article submission depending on what is your market or how is you website (you might create unnecessary competition for you). Apart from that this is a good list.

Thanks for these tips, they are really helpful for any beginner blogger who wants to get a lot of backlinks. These methods are valuable not only for blogs, but for any other sites as well. I use most of these methods. I see many people here don’t like Squidoo, neither do I. Maybe I just don’t get the idea of it. I like various off-line promotion methods — for example you can put paper ads somewhere in the streets or attach your site link onto your car, for example
I think all these strategies have always been very relevant. Not sure why you need to say “2011″ categorically.

I’d make #1 the last item in this list. #3 is so from the past. #7: only dofollow commenting counts. #10 is not a link building strategy, it’s more of (offline) marketing. You can’t click the link on a business card and it won’t get you any link juice. Despite my remarks, the list is pretty good.

The problem is the name is classed as Anchor text which is why we always post a keyword.. Great advice though and if you can tell us in another blog why not to use keywords instead of names I would love to read about it
