For some time I am thinking to put a related post plugin on my site, but I do not want to be just a related post plugin I want to choose the best the one that will integrate perfectly with my theme and will not be hard to implement, but first lets start with a short analyze.
Why to use a related post plugin:
- will be a grate way to improve your rankings by using keyword-targeted anchor texts.
- increase the crawl rate and depth (as well as click-through).
- Readers will have the possibility to read other posts that interest then and they will stay more on your blog.
Here are some plugins that I have tried and the conclusion about them, you can make a choice of what plugin is better for your blog:
Contextual Related Posts plugin for WordPress
This one was the first plugin that I have tried , it is easy to install and configure and it has the following features:
- Display Related Posts automatically in content / feed, no need to edit template files
- Doesn’t require the post to be tagged in order to display related posts
- You can manually add code to your template where you want the related posts to be displayed
- Exclude posts from categories
- Exclude display of related posts on Pages
- Exclude links pages in Related Posts list
- Find related posts based on content and post title
- Display thumbnails.
First I tooth that this plugin will be everything that I wanted, but in the end it wasn’t like that:
- I didn’t liked how integrated with my theme ( I hadn’t had time to do CSS modification to make it look better)
- The related posts displayed didn’t relate that much with my post.
And so I have decided to not used it.
Yet Another Related Posts Plugin
This one has more advanced options :
- An advanced and versatile algorithm: Using a customizable algorithm considering post titles, content, tags, and categories, YARPP calculates a “match score” for each pair of posts on your blog. You choose the threshold limit for relevance and you get more related posts if there are more related posts and less if there are less.
- Templating: New in 3.0! The YARPP templating system puts you in charge of how your posts are displayed.
- Caching: Improved in 3.1! YARPP organically caches the related posts data as your site is visited, greatly improving performance.
- Related posts in RSS feeds: Display related posts in your RSS and Atom feeds with custom display options.
- Disallowing certain tags or categories: You can choose certain tags or categories as disallowed, meaning any page or post with such tags or categories will not be served up by the plugin.
- Related posts and pages: Puts you in control of pulling up related posts, pages, or both.
This plugin indeed has more advanced options but I do not like it either because the related post choice it wasn’t on my like.
Microkid’s Related Posts
This plugin I like the most because you can chose what related post you want for a article and also it adding it to the other one if you chose the option :
Should related posts be reciprocal? If so, the link will appear on both pages. If not, it will only appear on the post/page where it was selected.
With this plugin you do it manually it think like this is more better even if it is eating some time but not that much because is easy to use. Here is a video.
Now what I have to do is to modify my CSS to how I like it and start to interlink some posts.

I am using YARRP plugin and I have never faced any problem with that. Good thing is that it works very smooth and easy to use.

I’m with YARPP all the way as it allows me to show excerpts within the related posts list and it has an option to show related posts in rss feeds
